    capture video - no picture

Hi, New to video capture. Have canon XL1s. Have pinnacle studio av/dv version 9. Have firewire. (Have checked it is properly connected)
Have Nvidea Gforce FX 5200. (have just visited the Nvidea site and downloaded their NVNDA download inc, the registry patch)Hope that makes sense.
I have the Legacy Audo bits that come with windows XP Proffesional and that is all enabled and working properly.
    I have pentium intel 4, 3.6 GHZ 512 ram.
PROBLEM - when I try to run 'capture' in Studio 9 there is a blank, soundless screen.
I have followed the instructions regarding turning the camera on, pressing play and then pause. I have just pushed play and then tried to capture. I now realize that if I cannot see my video playing on the studio 9 screen I do shall capture nothing.
Hope someone can understand what I mean and advise me (not too technically) on how to resolve the problem.

Update - Eventually I found that I had not entered the correct 'input' in the setup for studio 9. Having put in DV through firewire - bingo all working UNTIL I stopped the capture and we returned to a blank screen. Am now downloading updates for studio 9.

So you fixed it yourself? Welcome to Windrivers mrs chips.

Windows xp has it's own capture facility called movie maker 2 (if you have the update) You can check whether it is your setup or pinnacle by trying to capture in the native movie maker - if movie maker can capture, then its a problem with pinaccle and not the way you set up the camera.

Many thanks for advice. I tried movie make and it did not recognize my format. Needless to say it was me asking it to get the wrong thing. Having corrected the format and THEN downloading an update(patch) for pinnacle - all is now well. Will try movie maker again now I know a bit more. (Just to prove I can do it!)
