Hey, i need some help... aight heres what happened...my comp is a pcv-rs 421v sony vaio, in which i reformateed because i had to much garbage and it seemed like the quickest thing to do at the time to fix that. well ne wayz sony didnt supply me with a xp cd so i just installed windows 2000 on it. but now i cant find any drivers for my soundcard. sony only provides the driver for xp, and any other site i found saying it had the driver i need ive downloaded (they are only updates, not the actual driver) so i was wondering if someone out there could gimmie a hand and help me find what i need. thanx

Welcome to windrivers needhelp. Have you tried the xp driver? Otherwise, give this a try: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...9&DwnldID=6816

Well, Sony says you have an ADI codec. The question is which one. The intel driver supposedly worked on AD1885, AD1980, AD1981A or AD1981B. See if everest will tell you what you've got. Should be under PCI Devices.

under pci devices it says i have "intel 82801eb ich5 - ac'97 audio controller" is that what you are looking for?
also under multimedia/audio codecs it does not say anthing about adi

No, that's not it. In addition to the audio controller you've also got an ac'97 audio codec. Its an ADI Soundmax, but Sony doesn't say which one. It might also be listed as Analog Devices.
Complicating things is that Soundmax doesn't release drivers. So, if Sony doesn't have one for W2K, you need to find one for a similar motherboard with the same codec.

Does Everest identify the make and model of your motherboard?

Its an oem board. No specs or drivers on asus web site.
Were you able to find any reference to ADI Soundmax or Analog Devices in Everest?

Hudson, I did a little digging, that asus is an 865G Springdale, you did get the right drivers. There is something else going amiss here.

It could be that the sound has been disabled in the bios setup.
Or sony had a special board made with a different sound chip. Have you contacted sony to get the xp cd by the way?
here is the asus version of the drivers download those and try them
