How do I adjust brightness of monitor?

I have just bought my son a Prakitca dcz 6vr digital camera which he is very pleased with apart from the fact when he takes pics at night he can't see the subject clearly through the monitor because it is so dark. He has looked in manual but says it doesn't tell you how to change the brightness. Can anyone help us?? Thanks

Welcome to Windrivers msidey

First of all, what windows and what is the model number of the monitor?

Usually there are two ways of adjusting the brightness....

On the monitor itself there is a control panel (sometimes behind a flap) which brings up an onscreen menu and the brightness is usually an icon that looks like a child's drawing of a sun.

The second way is to use the tools supplied with the video card - not all video cards have this tool though. To access it you right click on the desktop (not an icon) and select properties, click the last tab - setup and click the advanced button. You should then get a few more tabs. You are looking for "gamma" or "gamma correction". You can then up the gamma setting a little which will increase the brightness of the display.

If you know the video card the computer has, or if the computer is branded like hp, dell etc, let us have the model number and someone will be able to tell you exactly where to look for the gamma adjustment (if any).

Sorry my mistake. I meant how do I adjust brightness on LCD screen on the camera as it is very dark to see subject in the evening through it.? Thanks

Thanks 4 reply but my mistake I meant adjusting the brightness on LCD screen on the actual camera. It's very dark at night and I can hardly see the subject. Sorry my mistake!!

hiya.
its msidey's son
i'm very rubbish at computers and stuff.
i have no idea what a video card is, and the computer was built by my dad's mate and has no brand that i can see.
the screen is hp, and i've found the brightness control thing.
do i need the camera connected with the usb cable.
sorry i'm so useless

On the screen there is a model number, probably on a label at the back.

Your question "do i need the camera connected with the usb cable." I would answer saying it depends what you want to do.

If you want to download your pics to your pc, then yes, it will have to be connected for that... but once you have saved them in a folder such as my pictures, you can disconnect the camera but make sure you use the "safely remove hardware" icon near the clock to disconnect the camera, or shut down the machine before unplugging the usb.

how will i change the brightness of the camera's display through the pc if the two aren't connected by the usb?
does hp pavilion f1523 help?
we're on windows xp.

i can do the transferring pics and stuff, its just hard to take the pics if its a bit dark

I cannot find any info on this camera... If the brightness is adjustable, there will be reference to it in the manual... the full manual will probably be a pdf file on the cd that came with it.

Dark lcds are sometimes faulty. Where did you buy this?

got it from ebay, brand new. the screen is fine in daylight, but once it gets a little dark its really hard to make out images. it doesn't seem faulty.

Unfortunately that is one of the drawback of LCD screens they tend to bleach out in heavy sunlight and go extremely dark in night time shots its the nature of the beast.A camera with both screen and shielded view finder works out better for such extreme light opportunities.
BTW if its that dark when taking pictures then a flash or camera stand should be used as it wont really be held steady enough to prevent blur under prolonged exposures.
