2 CD-W on the same IDE ?
Hi,
I have an old Teac 4x4x32 CD-W, still working properly. I want to buy a newer Teac CD-W however I want to keep my old CD-W.
Can I install 2 CD-W on the same IDE? if so, any DMA settings ?? and which one should go for master ?
thanks a lot !

Yes you can, but I recommended you set the new one to master and keep the old one as slave.
As to dma - the old teac won't be able to use it... and it depends on what the new one is as whether dma is useful or not.

Well, I guess my current CDW (4x4x32) has DMA.. I checked device manager and it is set to DMA (Multiword DMA mode 2) not PIO..
is it preferable to use DMA or PIO and whats the difference?
thanks a lot !!

In general, it is preferable to use dma as long as both drives support it. The problem is that if they are both on the same channel, the speed will usually be reduced to that of the slower drive. So if the new drive supports udma mode 2 but the old drive only supports dma mode 2 (udma mode 0), both will run at the slower speed.
