    Red face Major Problems

My DvD-Rom just quit reading movie files. Was working
great then ??? Don't know what I could have done to
cause it. This is a new machine that I built 3 months
ago. Bootup DOS sees the drive---windows sees it and
displayed in My computer and device manager. It reads
data disk fine. Have uninstalled & Reinstalled PowerDvD
several times. But when it reads a video file it instantly
locks up. Only way out is reset !! Have tried to restore
back a couple weeks but will not. Have swaped this dvd
out with another one but same problem. Waiting to get
this problem fixed to put in a new nec 2510d drive.
All help would would be greatly appreciated..
    Thanks

    Welcome to Windrivers Barefoot

Seem to be getting alot of this of late...
There are patches available for powerdvd, have you installed those?
Have you installed the intel inf driver?
    What about the intel accelaration?

www.videolan.org is a nice free dvd player, can that play a disk?

    Thanks NooNoo for your reply
Have not inatalled any "inf driver" or videolan player..Never
heard of this player. Did install WinDvD and it too locked
up. Have no idea what intel inf file to download. I have been
on this site for over a week searching for clues. Think I have
read every thread in this and winxp forums.

I now have a big mess. Popups everywhere. Can't initialize
this .sys and that .sys..Did get the VideoLan program
working. The program is ok but don't have "snapshot"
feature. I am probably going to have to do a re-install or
just wipe the whole thing clean and start from 0. Will read
up on that in the windows xp forum. Do hope there is a way
    to save my settings etc.
    Thanks

Popups? You have a spyware/trojan/virus problem!!

You can use the file and settings transfer wizard in xp to save stuff like this.

Remember to do your contacts, email, favourites and cookies as separate exports.

Not popups from internet..Popups from startup looking for files. ie,
universal serial bus controller..I have reinstalled everything I know
of and still not right. It shows up as ? in device manager

Yes. Is looking for drivers for INTEL(R) 82801EB ENHANCED HOST CONTROLER-24DD. I have no idea what this driver is for because
everything works. I have USB,,, mouse, printer, smart media card
reader. The printer has a card reader but I have installed the software for this. Also, in device manager I have a yellow? and universal
serial (USB) controller. Have installed a new NEC DVD-2510A and XP
does not see it ?? Thanks for your help Barefoot

That is part of the intel inf driver - you have not installed the intel inf driver correctly.

The INF install program is searching for a file "usbehci.sys". It
is going to c:\windows\temp...looking for the file. There is no
such file there. I did a file search and no file found on the HD
    ?????? B

No. Do not have SP1. Did find the file on the ASUS mb Disk. However
now In DEVICE MANAGER,, USB2 enhanced host controler and SP 8750DC Storage both have yellow ! The sp8750dc is the card
    reader in the printer. ....B
