problem with linksys support, i hate them
hey,
i have been on the phone with linksys support for like 4 hours, over the course of 2 days, friday and monday. I have been trying to get them to send me the firmware for the WRV54G wireless router. However, the 2.25 set has a vulnerability that allows an unauthenticated user to access the admin pages.
this is a problem (obviously)
my question is this, has anyone ever managed to get the firmware out of linksys's grasp? any version newer than 2.25 would be appreciated
thanx again!

Unless you are expecting a beta from Linksys, I think the 2.25.2 version is the latest.

There are always custom firmwares. Would you be interested in that?

Were you referring to this flaw?
http://www.internetnews.com/infra/article.php/3362321
I thought it applied only to the WRT54G models.
The link mentions a workaround.

they had told me i would receive a beta, but sent me the 2.25.2
personally i would be up for a beta, or a custom hack, but the custom hacks are hard to find for that model. the wrt54g, no problem, but the wrv, not so much
the problem itself is that locally or remotly, you can login to the admin page without a user or pass, ie if you leave the fields blank, you can login.
and i did clear my cache and associated things

That sucks.
Even the Linksys FTP doesn't mention anything newer than 2.25.2 or any betas: ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/

The Sveasoft Satori Firmware is mentioned over at Linksys.Info.org, and even a page about your hardware: http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.p...bd4cfc0c1270e7
...but your particular router does not seem to fit the bill for this firmware.

I know, I saw that site. Its really depressing, these routers work really well, when they work like they should, its just disappointing that linksys as a company has let me down as they have. total time on the phoen, 4.5 hours, and NO RESOLUTION.
i would love to get a custom firmware, but the GPL code the have posted doesnt seem to compile correctly, which is *slightly* annoying :P
thanx for all your help nonetheless!

I have had to use Linksys support three times for routers. I always got thru right away. Always got great support.
My 2 cents.

its weird, i have called them a total of 4 times now, and they always walk me through the damned flowchart, its annoying as hell. i just want them to fix the password problem, they have updated frimware.
i finally got through to their head tech, and he is sending me what is HOPEFULLY updated firmware.
i hope this works
if it does, ill post it for all to use
