Lexar 128mb Usb Jump Drive Mass Storage Not Responding
Hello, I just bought a Lexar 128mb USB mass storage device and my Dell 2.0 GHZ XP machine does not recognize it. It recognizes all my other USB devices, including a Lexar Jump Shot compact flash card reader. My XP has the correct drivers as well, usbstor.
I plug the thing in and nothing, there's an LED light that should light up. I go to my device manager and nothing is there, NO YELLOW exclamtion point, no mass storage device. The drive works, it works on every machine at work, it just doesn't work on my home PC.
Does anyboy else have this problem, do you think I am having driver conflicts with the Lexar Jump Drive I have installed?
HELP!!!
thx Greg

Ditto
I have a similar problem with Lexar 128 MB Jump Drive on my Dell Laptop using XP Pro. USB ports are fine, they recognize my Digital Camera. Emailed support, agent asked me to uninstall and restart. This did not work.

Welcome to Windrivers jlindy and graven....
Lindy, when the jump drive is plugged in, do you get the acknowledgement beep? If you look in management under disk storage, does it show up there?

Are you sure the LED lights up? My 256MB jump drive has what appears to be a LED, but it never lights in any machine I put it in.

My Lexar 128 mb has the LED which only lights up when the drive is actually being accessed. When i plug it in, the LED flashes and I get the acknowledgment beep. When I save to it or copy from it the LED lights up until the process is complete.

Nothing shows up at all. The tech got back to me agian and asked me to try stick on another computer and return if faulty. I did find one item online that mentioned problems from Intel. My laptop is a Dell Precision

I have the same problem
I recently bought a Lexar 128MB JumpDrive USB memory key. My home laptop, a Dell Inspiron 8600, does not see the key when I plug it in the USB port. The key works fine on other computers, including my work laptop, a Dell Latitude D505.
My home system is an Intel Pentium 4 with Windows XP Professional updated with all the required patches from Microsoft and Dell. I tried the following workarounds without any success:
- uninstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers from the Device Manager
- booting the system with the USB key already plugged into the port
Any clues?

Samcara welcome to windrivers
In future please start your own thread. Plug in the drive and then right click my computer, choose manage, in the lower half choose disk management - does the drive show up there?

Not sure what Dell Precision Model. It is from work, and I do not see any other identifier. Tried in co-workers Brand New Lap Top and it found the device fine. Returned for a new one and it can not be found either.

Found out at Dell web site what the problem is. Not a driver problem at all. Lexar case interferes with insertion. Taking 1 mm off of case fixes it. Or do what I did and push it in harder....................

Always the simple answer
However, I would pare off a little of the casing, you may cause damage to the socket otherwise.

EUREKA! Jlindy is absolutely right! I kept pressure on the USB memory key and the laptop finally recognized it and it worked fine as long as I kept pressure on it. Solution: I slowly filed the plastic casing around the metal plug with a nail file until I reduced it by about 1 mm. Now the USB key works like a charm.
Thanks to all for the help. It might be useful spreading this workaround to all the unhappy Lexar users.
Cheers!
