    Hurricanes

Two out there as I type. One in the Gulf and the other in the Carib, but expected to enter the Gulf and both will hit Florida, and one is projected to hit me!!! So, you see minions, your troubles may be over.

Hey Titchski: have room for me in that Hurricane proof room of yours?

Yeah, looks like you're the lucky one this time. How far inland are you? Looks like I'll have to be gone for awhile: hurricane proofing and what not. The stores are already packed.

If one came up to Housotn/Galveston, I would only have flooding to worry about, but we are going to New Orleans next weekend so that could be a bit worse

Good reason to dump Satellite and switch to cable if you ask me!

Thanks GeekGirl! Appreciate the sentiment! Really!
But geesh, the local news at 6pm was nothing but hurricane stuff. I mean it! There was not another story on for a whole half hour!!! I mean: come on??? Perfect example of how they are all about money and advertising! I mean this storm is a minimal hurricane! It MIGHT get to a Cat 2! I wouldn't leave my 'bunker" unless it was a Cat 4! Then they would have to make me leave.
But listen, yeah I know it's a hurricane, and any hurricane is bad, and "potentially" devastating. The storm surge being the real culprit! I am on an island, and if I have to leave, I'll be talking to Titchski, and reserving space in his "Hurricane Proof" room. So: we should be alright!
The island I live on would go under if the storm surge is over 10 feet. But, I live on the highest point of this island. It would take 20 feet to put my house "under". So: everything is alright! And: kind of exciting! I don't know it you ever experienced this 'ski, but several years ago I went to the tip of my island while one was passing and the sight was awesome! No damage: here at least. But I will tell you what: the sight of nature IS sometimes so awesome!
And, if it does hit here with full force, I will give updates from my "bunker" and keep WD informed. And, if the power does go for awhile, I have a "stock" of UPS's, which should allow me enough time to keep you all posted.

    PS
All joking aside though: I hope there is no loss of life.

Yes, thanks for the thoughts GeekGirl

Trip, you're more than welcome at mine mate, I have the scotch, gin, whisky, JD and homebrew all stocked along with baked beans and pepperoni, just bring a sleeping bag. The shutters are ready to get put on and We'll see how well the hurricane safe - not proof - guest bathroom holds up to Charley.

    Cheers

Somehow I knew that mate. Thanks, too!!!
Have room for my flock of birds, as well? Oh yeah: you have a cat.
Seriously though, I am really well stocked, and I may be lacking all that liquor, but I do have plenty of water and beer (non-homebrewed, btw). When a Cat 4 comes our way: I WILL be calling you! Hey, I guess golf is off this weekend, huh?

Damn! Now they are ordering us to evacuate the islands!

I may just have to give you a call Titchski!
Wish us luck people. Hey jaeger, I see the storm track is heading towards you now. How far inland are you? Good luck to you, too.

Apparently Trip it doesn't mean you have to go, just that you are "at risk" if you don't. Then Lee County can have their usual "I told you so" attitude when its all over. Give me a buzz if you want to paddle over. Allegedly I'll be off at 2:30 today to go put up shutters and stick bags of mulch outside the garagedoor when its down.

Jaeger, good luck if it does go anywhere near you

Yeah, I know about the evac orders. Most people I know aren't going anywhere, even many in Matlacha are staying. My neighbor just took off for the Cape, though. Cat 3 would be an entirely different story of course. Hence, the waiting and watching. Most of the island is shut down though. Either since this morning, or a noon closing. Keep dry 'ski. I'll give you a call later mate.
