    dvd+r discs wont work

i've finally installed my ned nd-2500a dvd drive in my comp and i'm trying to copy some of my dvd's, but nero 6 (and numerous other pieces of software i've tried) keep telling me that my verbaim 4.7gb dvd+r discs are either fll or can't be written to

the drive is brand new and so are the discs, the drive can read discs properly so i dont think there's anything wrong with the drive but could it be the discs? i've just managed to burn some data onto the dvd +r disc but it will not copy a movie onto the disk, could it be because the movies are of a 'dubious beginning' if you catch my drift?

any ideas would be very much appreciated

I have encountered a similar problem before, but with a Pioneer DVD-R drive, while I was copying some DVD's. I use Roxio 6.0, and one error I got was that the media cannot be copied, while another error is not enough free space on destination disk. I think there are some DVD's which have copy protection.

If you have the time and the patience, check this link.

Welcome to windrivers forums, flassa99 .

Have you tried different media, even recommended brands can fail to work.

Having unusual 'formats' mightn't help either depending on what gets used to do the copying & what type the source discs are, though this is more dependent on what copy protections are present etc - you can copy anything for your own use if you own the original, & I hope that's what this whole thread is about ! ..

Copying a movie though should just just be a straight forward disk copy if this was of another 'backup', infact in copying terms that makes it simpler ! Because a comercial dvd is up to 9.6 gig & writers are only just becoming that now for the home market (media for that though is still too dear), someone else will probably have re-encoded & shrunk the files to fit on any 'backup' copy to get inside the 4.7 limit. To do this yourself you want something like nero recode.

btw in general dvdrw + drives are a bit more fussy about media than -r just like players are, about 10% more so.

If you've had various bits of s/w on & off for writing I suggest you remove all but whatever you are using , writing programs introduce special drivers to do the burning which very often conflict.
