    Post Outlook Express

Trying to help a friend who was running Win95 with IE4.0 upgraded to 5.0 and then undid the upgrade because it was causing problems.

In the process Outlook Express while still itself there seems to be disattached from the registry. I had him put the upgrade back, the other problems were fixed by replacing video drivers, but outlook express is still not hooked in.

If I go to the IE setup it insists that OE ois already setup and even if I run the setup program again doesnt work.

    Any ideas?

I happen to like Outlook Express too but never experienced this one before.

Try going to the control panel and uninstall Outlook Express from add/remove programs. Then try to reinstall it and see if that fixes it. Also, have you tried launching it from your destop icon as it sometimes will not launch off of the button in IE the first time after it's added or reinstalled. It will then ask you if you want it as the default mail server and if you answer yes it will work from then on. Be sure to have IE open too.

The dll file you are having trouble with maybe a shared file. Close all open programs except systray and explorer. Then try to delete and install.

I found the answer. The install CD provided by Microsoft was crippled.

I got an ISP install CD in the mail and noticed that if I run install for IE5 there are many more options including the ability to uncheck everything but outlook express and let it re-install by itself. It worked. Case closed.
