Uh-oh, more bad news for the democrats
Good news for America equals bad news for the demos.

Orders gained 1.7 percent in July, their biggest monthly increase since March.
Signs of regaining steam
The U.S. manufacturing sector has shown signs of regaining steam in recent months after being hit hard by the 2001 recession. From January 2001 through July, about 2.7 million U.S. factory jobs have been lost.
Recently, however, the job picture has stabilized and output, driven by a boom in worker productivity, has increased. The Federal Reserve said U.S. factories ran at their fastest operating rate -- 76.3 percent of full capacity -- in more than three years in July.
In the durables report, overall transportation-related orders rose 5.6 percent, as orders in the volatile civilian aircraft category more than doubled from June’s tally, offsetting declines in demand for autos and military aircraft.
And, from the chart on that page, you can see that consumer confidence is up, unemployment is around 5.5%, consumer inflation at 1.8%, the Dow is back up over 10,000, etc. Not too shabby.
Of course, somebody (and you know who I'm talking about) will say that the economy is tanking. That's what he wants, the American economy to tank. But lo and behold, it's not happening. It's not in great shape, but it certainly is not tanking.

Are you really that shallow to think that Democrats hate America?

Is that unemployment figure a national average or a localized one?

Yes he is. Remember that Republicans seem to see every thing in black and white, right or wrong, my way or no way.

I think he has become that polarized from the attitudes of a few of the more liberal posters on this board. It is unfortunate that this type of attack will not help get his point across.

No, of course not. But there are a few hard cores like Michael Moore and techs who believe that America will be the downfall of the entire world. Most democrats are good God-fearing people who I don't have a problem with.
As I have stated many times, I voted for Bush in 2000 and I wanted him to win. But if Gore had won, that would have been OK too. It would not have been the end of the world. But the way they attacked the sovereign state of Florida with their viciousness by making up new rules as we went along and contempt for the Constitution left me (and most Americans) with a sour taste in my mouth. They are the ones who are still saying that Bush stole the election when every recount said that Bush won by a small margin.

Where do these figures come from? The washington state unemployment is at 6% and was over 7% earlier in the year.

Anyone that has taken a macroeconomics class would know that 5-5.5 percent is pretty much our average accepted unemployment rate. There will always be unemployment in this country, one reason being that there will always be people who will hold out on working until they get the job they want. People will do this whether they have the money to do it or not. They have too much pride to accept a lower job or their spouse or family will support the person until the job is available.

Once again JaxSon is so desperate he distorts the truth.
First off the unemployment figure is not reall the "unemployed". For instance it does not count those who have given up actively seeking work. And if he listed the figures further back he would see it was in the 4 percent range when Clinton was President. Plus it counts as employed people who lost 50,000 a year jobs and now work at minimum wage jobs.
Second. The Dow is back over 10,000? It was at 12,400 when Bush took office.
Third. Consumer confidence is up? Up from it's ridiculously low levels? Could the Bush disinformation campaign telling everyone how great the economy is be influencing people? Of cours.
Fourth. Orders for durable goods up 1.7 percent? Yes and no. If you exclude the extremely variable aircraft industry where one order can be billions of dollars it went up .1 percent. Not just neglible but within the margin of error. Therefore little if any growth.
Fifth. If you read further it says the economy has actually slowed down. the report is consistent with an economy still expanding, but at a slower rate,” so JaxSon is telling us a slowing economy is good? Only in his dreams.
Sixth. Worker productivity is up. That means we are producing more from each worker. Which means that workers are working harder. I would work harder too if my job could be outsourced (and will be) at any minute.
Seventh. In fact the statistics show a worse economy than expected. . Treasury bond prices rallied after the report’s release, as it was not as strong as some traders had feared this means that bond traders who sell more bonds in a bad economy had feared there would be a better report. They are relieved that the economy has done worse than predicted.
Eight. It says we lost 2.7 million manufacturing jobs from jan 2001 til july of this year. It somehow equates worker productivity with employment. As explained earlier worker productivity is per worker. It has nothing to do with the number of workers. In fact it is the slowdown in the Chinese economy which has slowed outsorcing.
Nine. Factories ran at 76.8 percent. Which means almost 25 percent of capacity is not being used. Far less than the 90 percent plus during the Clinton years.
And lastly,
This is a report from an agency, the Commerce Dept. that is supervised by, you guessed it, the President. It has tried to put a good spin on BAD news.
Refute this if you can, JaxSon

Yes it is progress. But it doesn't take into account the people who are no longer elegible for benefits. Both Washington and Oregon have led the nation in unemployment.
The point I was trying to make is that things are not improving in this part of the country, a region that was an industry leader in high tech and aerospace. Loads of well educated, well trained workers and the majority of jobs are for service work.
Being capable of earning decent money and being forced to work for peanuts does not equal an improving economy. Remember, if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
The Moral Majority is neither.
