HP LaserJet 4 memory

We have an old LJ4 in the office. We're trying to upgrade the memory in the dang thing, but every SIMM we stick in there isn't being detected. We run a test, and it just keeps saying its got the same 2MB in it. I believe all our SIMMs are FD or EDO. I can't find anything helpful on HP's site about it. HP just says we need to order the memory from them to be sure we have the right part. (of course)

So what's up? Does this thing take parity or something?

Couldn't find any on Crucial's site using their "memory finder".

Weird....DonJ, looks like all the stuff you posted was 36 pin SIMMs. This printer takes 72 pin....and one of our guys here found some old 4MB parity, and it took that just fine.

So now the sales guys can print their 70 page marketing PDFs on our printer with no problems....yay.

My old office use to have a bunch of LJ 4's and 5's. I salvaged a bunch of 72 pin ram from our old 486's before I tossed them for redeployment in the printers. (I wish I had held on to the rest when I left ) I seem to recall that you just had to try different sticks in different printers until they were happy. Might have been an issue with single sided v. double sided as well.

Sorry, Don...guess my eyes are faster than my brain.
Come to think of it, I think the stuff we were trying before was double sided, and the parity we've got in there now is single sided.
