GUI (Explorer.exe) Crashes after installing SP2
Well I just downloaded SP2 and installed it. After rebooting Windows
loads till the point that the Start Bar loads. After about 2 seconds or
so then the Start Bar Crashes and I get a Crash box saying that Explorer.exe
has encountered a problem and must close. This causes my desktop and
my start bar to not show up. After I click on the close button for that crash
then it says Drwatson crashed.
After that everything seems to be normal except I have no desktop icons nor
start bar. I can press CTRL-ALT-DEL and use it's run process button to launch
programs like IE and other things. This is how I got to Microsofts website and
found out how to get it to uninstall through the cmd mode.
Anybody else have a similar issue? I did a search in this for for SP2 and GUI but only came up with one hit and they didn't explain their problem and I didn't see any answers about it.
After uninstalling SP2 my computer seems to be back to normal.
TTYL,
Eric
PS Forgot I am using XP Pro SP1 right now.

Hmmm... I don't have any toolbar programs installed. I do however have a program to block popups installed called Popupcop. Perhaps it was the problem. Just got done running Ad-Aware and it only found 30 cookies that were considered Data Miner's so no real threat.

I do have Systemworks 2004 on my machine. Guess I will disable it in the startup bar next time.

Well, I think it was my pop up stopper. I downloaded a newer version of their program and installed it then reinstalled the SP 2 and just got back into windows. Doesn't seem to be any problems now.
I changed nothing else on my computer.

Well I have now installed SP2 on another 5 computers and not a single one has had an issue as of yet. Just the very first one, mine. But I make sure to uninstall any toolbar's in ie before installing it.
