    Resolved [RESOLVED] HPPCL5G3.DLL module error

What is the role of module HPPCL5G3.DLL in Windows 95?

I am running Windows 95 (with Office 97) for the PC and am now unable to open Word or PowerPoint files without getting the message "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down... (name of
program) caused a general protection fault in module HPPCL5G3.DLL @ 0001:00002cbb".

I get this error for every file I try to open in Word and PowerPoint, and sometimes in Excel. It also occurs sometimes with FindFile. Afterwards (the next time I start the program) it says that the file I
was trying to open has been corrupted and may be recoverable (if I try to recover it I get text with no formatting).

This whole problem arose when my computer crashed while I was using Word
and Excel simultaneously, and I had to re-boot it.

I have tried the following, with no success:

    (1) running Norton Utilities and Disk Doctor (says there are surface
errors on Drive C but won't fix them)
    (2) running the latest version of F-prot (says there are no errors)
    (3) running Norton AntiVirus (finds no viruses)
    (4) uninstalling and re-installing Office97
    (5) uninstalling and re-installing Windows 95

Please forward reply to [email protected]. Thank you in advance for any help-- I greatly appreciate it!

    SYMPTOMS

When you try to remove a modem using the Modems tool in Control Panel while Device Manager is
open, you may receive the following error message:

Rundll32.exe has performed an illegal operation.

    CAUSE

The error message occurs because Windows 95 detects that the system configuration has changed
and sends a message to the Modems tool to update its list of modems at the same time that the
information for that modem is being removed from memory.

    RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

Close the Modems tool and use Device Manager to remove the modem.
Close Device Manager before you remove the modem in the Modems tool.
