    Up to 5,000 pages/month

Now here's something I don't understand. Whilst reading thru the Staples add I noticed this laserjet printer (an HP LJ1000 series) that says it will print "Up to 5,000 pages/month"

Now my question is how does that work?

Is there a built in calendar that will deactivate the printer when you've exceeded your 5000 page per month quota?

Does an HP Authorized technician have to come out and reset your page count so you can print more than 5000 pages?

Or is it like a Gas/Electric utility thing where they come out and read your meter once a month and charge you appropriately?

If I don't exceed my 5000 per month quota, does my unused page count "rollover" to the next month like cel phone minutes?

Maybe one of our HP or Printer gurus around here can sort that out.

    thanks

Not that I don't appreciate your tongue in cheek sarcasm, but I'm also amused by HP's overly optimistic duty cycle. If you ran that puppy for 5,000 pages a month it would probably explode.

well , i sorta read it this way ,

    the printers warrenty equels 5000 x 12 =60,000 (5000 pages per mth x 12 mth) ,,,if it has a 12m warrenty ,

this equates to 1250 pages a week or 178 pages per day (7 day week) ,,

no they do not come around and check the counter ,,,

in a 12 m period the printer is capable of 60,000 pages above that you are overworking the machine and should have bought a stronger/more expensive one.

I don't know, I think Hudsonsmith's idea of the printer literaly EXPLODING if it hit 5000 pages in a month was pretty funny.

"Oh my god she's gonna blow!!! Hit the deck!!!!!"

KA-POW!!! end of printer, shoulda read the warranty.

2nd ? I didn't even know I'd made a first one ? - I was merely commenting on the humour of this passing you by (in an even, apparently, more unfunny way still !), I must admit it nearly made it past me & then I realised we were meant to be inventing exploding printers & little HP gnomes going on strike & such ..

Actually, the page count does sometimes count. I've had a couple HP LaserJet 4200n printers that were near warranty-end that needed to be repaired or replaced. HP would check the manufacture/warranty date and then ask me what the current page count was. In two cases they took back printers that were just over warranty in terms of time but still under 200,000 pages; in one case a printer that was just a couple weeks inside the warranty was rejected because it was well over 200,000 pages.

Sorry if this was meant to be a joke. Since I knew I figured I'd take it 'seriously' and toss the info out.

oh so it IS a warranty thing. that makes sense now.

Hey NooNoo is there a warranty limit on this board if we exceed a certain number of posts per month?

Is the board gonna like EXPLODE if Adept or the WOTPP commandoes go over a set limit?

Or do we have to collectively go over that limit.

When we hit 300,000 posts do we have to swap in a maintenence kit?

just makin' sure 'cuz I don't wanna like break nuthin'

Yep. They won't count "per month" (if the printer is three months old and has 25,000 pages they don't care) but they do count "total" - one year times 5,000 pages/month means ... break the sumbatch before you get to 60,000 pages.

It's collectively. I think. Scott should have the warranty paperwork.

We'd better all quit posting 'till Scott or Noo comes up with the warranty details. It would suck if the forum just quit working.

LOL yeah I'll stick with the un-used DVD-Rs, you tend to be able to fit more data on those.

Another stroke of genius from the Marketing/Advertising department. Don't just love having to deal with Vendor reps before you get to anyone who knows something about their product?
