help from people in Brooklyn, NY
Since this place has never let me down when it comes to computer support, I thought perhaps you guys could help me with something else. My girlfriend had to move to New York for a year for her job and I would really like to go out there to visit her as much as possible, but I am worried about finding affordable hotels out in Brooklyn. She is living in an all women's housing unit that doesn't allow men to stay overnight, so I can't stay with her. So the question is, anyone know of any affordable (clean) hotels in Brooklyn? Expedia and Orbitz haven't been much help, they mostly list chain hotels.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Actually, a chain hotel might be the way to go. The rates are usually reasonable and if you go with a good one, you know they'll at least have SOME standards.

yeah, some sections aren't exactly known for the "tourist appeal"
what about checking the website for her employer and looking for a visitor info section. that could give good insider advice
or maybe hotels.com?

Brooklyn does not really have a wide selection of hotels, although there are several downtown. Most are located in Manhattan, or in Queens near LaGuardia and JFK airports. For Brooklyn, Downtown Manhattan (Wall St. area) should work for you and many hotels offer weekend discounts. Will you be driving? Parking in Manhattan can add $40/day or more. Affordable in NYC can be tricky. Let me know what budget you have in mind and I'll see if I can come up with some suggestions.

I will flying in this time, so parking won't be a problem. As for a budget, I was hoping to find something in the $50 to $60 range, of course if there is cheaper I will take it (I hate being poor). Thanks for your help.

At your price range, a hotel will be difficult. I took a look on travelocity, but the only hotels I see under $80 are out by Newark Airport - which is a hike from Brooklyn. Anything in NYC is north of $100. Take a look at these sites, which have listings for cheap hotels:

If you don't need privacy (w/ your girlfriend), another option would be a hostel. In a hostel you rent a bed, not a room (although they have a few private rooms). The rate for the NYC location (Amsterdam & W. 103 St.) starts at $29.

Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.
