Unhappy sysrnj.exe

This was probley my fult in the first place as i didn't check what type of file I was deleting. But that file was infected by a virus anyways. Since Norton couldn't remove the virus from any of the infected files i was forced to delete them. But I didn't know that one of these types of files were to be infected. So it was deleted.
After my computer froze for a minute I rebooted and I started getting the error "Windows cannot find sysrnj.exe". Now all I could do on my computer is surf the net. The only program active is Explorer.
Is there any way of restoring the file or reinstalling windows without formating my computer?

Sure, you can always just reinstall Windows on top of itself, but that is a bit drastic.

Goto here and download the autoruns.exe file. Run it to see if there is a reference to that file that is trying to startup with windows.

That file does not sound familiar, and I could not find it on my Win2k box, and I cannot get to my Win98 box at present.

Autoruns.exe won't run either. And like I said before, I cannot run most of my programs as this file is required to open exe files. I tried to reinstall windows 98 and windows me with the same message. All I can do on my computer is surf the net. I really don't want to format without backing up my files. Please, I know someone out there could solve this problem.

You cannot run any .EXE programs because the virus altered the file extension to point to the Sysrnj.exe in the registry. Fortunately it didn't change the .COM extension so we can run the .com programs.

For more information on how to completely remove the virus, please refer to the following Symantec webpage:
