    Post Memory

    I need to confirm a rumour I`ve heard.

    Is it true that Win9x will recognise, but absolutely refuse to utilise any memory over 256MB?

    I`ve heard so many people tell me it is/isn`t true and I need to know, so I thought hey! the guys at Windrivers will know!

    Untrue!! Have a 98 box with 512meg and I can use all of it. 98 will let me make a swap file over 256 so that tells me 98 does know what to do with over 256.

    No matter how much memory is in the system, windows will always make a swapfile. The reason for this is, not every one could afford to have the maximum amount of memory, so windows utilized the swapfile as a backup in case what memory the user had was used up. Windows9x will not however adress memory amounts over 256 megs. It's similiar to having dual CPUs in windows9x. A waste of money. Programs will, however, utilize the extra memory. Things like CAD programs and such have no problem working that extra bit over 256.
