    File and Print Sharing Question

    If I was to remove file and print sharing from WinXP computers would this also disable the admin share feature (\\computername\c$).

    I believe it does. I had a guy that would turn off F&P sharing on his 2k PC, and I couldn't manage it with the MMC Snaping I use to manage all of the PC's in the building...I never looked closely to see whether all the shares were disabled, cause I would just walk over and turn it back on, but I would assume yes...If you find out before I do, let me know! After the 3rd time I threatened him...he doesn't do it anymore...

    All my people have local admin membership to their own PC's. For the most part I have really responsible users, and giveing them admin rights takes a lot of the stress out of the day...

    I tried this between a NT and XP box and rejected the connection to the XP box. A lot of companies are moving to turn F&P sharing due to vulnerabilities from viruses. Plus it creates a lot of network overhead. This is not good since it is a great feature for updating files remotely.

    I had an issue with viruses spreading through my file sharing on my XP network at home... nasty little guys.. to fix it I just password protected the shares on the gateway machine... since I've got my router with a firewall I don't need to password protect them I assume and haven't had an issue...

    With regards to the original problem, my understanding is that disabling F&P sharing will also disable the admin share.
