XP doesn't hold view settings.
Anyone/everyone notice this? Try
tools/folderoptions/apply to all folders
go back to some folders and one day it's tiles, one day it's list, one day it's thumbnails... wft? My machine isn't smart enuf to make up it's own mine?

works fine for me, and all the XP PC's at work (at least a couple dozen)
that's one of the first things I do when tweaking out a system and I've never seen it not work.
do you have any kind of shell enhancement software like a GeoShell or SkinXP installed, even if it's not being used?

I don't have that trouble here at all. All of the PC's I setup I pick the Detailed view, add the status bar as well, and copy the profile to the default profile, so that all users are setup that way. Not one person has had this problem, got maybe, 30 xp boxes...

I've seen it happen many times too. Mainly in the Documents and Settings area.
2 minutes later after writing the above sentence...
I just tried it and couldn't find any on my desktop here at home. I know I've seen it do this before though lots of times. It hasn't really slowed me down enough to tackle it as an issue though.

There is a limit in the reg about how many folder views XP can remember, using a tweak one can increase or decrease the limit. or TweakUI has an option to up the limit.
BTW, even for me on both my machines, XP sometimes deems it necessary to change the view from my only and fav choice of Detailed to randomly anything else.
