Anyone here bowl?
Some friends talked me into joining a league with them. It's pretty fun. I bought some bowling shoes to save money and I've been looking at getting a used set of balls on ebay. (That sounded gross, didn't it?)

Now why would you need a "set"
And ya, it sounded pretty gross.

I used to bowl, maybe twice a week. I would scored between 100-200, but I broke my wrist and after the spin on the ball was never the same, so I quit.
It's more of fun if they let you drink, which most of the bowling alleys let you do here. The only bad thing is that most of the ladies in a bowling alley are not, well lets just say keep to yourself and your friends when you bowl.

This is gonna sound gross as well:
You need a primary ball and a spare ball (to pick up spares).

I just grab a 15 or 16 pound ball that fits my hand and throw it as hard down the lane as I can....

Hey Meatwad,
I bowl in four leagues per week this season and have done so for the past ten years. If you're looking for a new ball (trust me, it does matter if you plan to get better), check out this site:
http://www.bowlersparadise.com
or
http://www.buddysproshop.com (this one seems to be down right now, but I've bought lots of equipment from here).
If you're looking for some of the newer equipment, let me know because new stuff usually retails for around $200, but I haven't paid more than like $80 for anything new in the past 5 years. (work part time at three different bowling alleys as a mechanic right now).
Enjoy

What's candlepin? Is that like duckpin? We were in Reno this year for the National Championships and they had this thing called Route 66 (it's duckpin, but on shorter lanes and set up like a video game). It was pretty cool.
Sorry about the link, that equipment is for regular bowling...

It's a regional variation invented in Worcester Mass. This link explains it pretty good.

Metwad, if you can't afford a bowling ball, you can always roll your greasy @ss down the lane.

Candlepin is bowling for New Englanders. My old roomate was in a bowling league, one night a week. He would always come home fitschaced. I went down with him a couple of times. Came home fitschaced too. There was not much bowling going on more of throwing balls down the hallway while drinking...
It was fun.

The guys from work are having a LAN party at a private bowling alley this weekend. Does that count? Nothing better that bowling and Doom 3.
