Angry Help me please I have no sound after format

    Hi
I have formatted and re-installed my operating system and now find I have no sound whatsoever and strangely behaving graphics. I have installed and re-installed both the hardware and drivers repeatedly with no sucess. I am not even getting the speaker icon on the toolbar! As for the graphics, most of the time they work ok, except for fuzzy strange looking icons on the toolbar and occasional flicking back to the look of graphics before card installation. My OS details are as follows

Welcome to forums kiwichyck, too much info ! (for once ) - can you just tell me/us the model number ?

You are short of 'additional drivers' for sound & graphics by the sounds of this - they'll all be listed on some compaq support page somewheres, however spotting just which model you have involves me/us 'guessing' from what other info you've given just which one it might be..

Btw for 'other folks' - where the hell has the compaq page gone where you can punch in the 'asset tag' & get a model number & specs out of it ? (that would do for me what I'm asking for confirmation of !!!)

Line two of the specs reads "Compaq Deskpro EP/SB Series". The processor is a P2 266. At the time, Compaq model numbers followed the processor series and clock speed, so this would be "6266". Don't know that I can say that its definitely right, but I'm 90% sure.

It is a EP/SB Series 6266, I have tried downloading drivers from the link but still no luck. Major problem is the fact that for some reason the computer is not installing the sound hardware. Can't detect it itself and I don't know which to select from the list. I ran windows diagnostics and it says there is no media installed.
    Graphics still screwy too.....
Don't understand why this is happening, I have formatted this computer several times before with no problems like this!! I have all the relevant drivers either on disk or my recovery drive.

    Thanks for helping

    Hi all

I've sorted my graphics glitch, silly me, the settings in properties were wrong!

Still no luck with the sound......my driver files seem to be operating properly, just can't find the hardware! If it helps, the driver files are named Es1868 and Es1869 but attempting hardware install of matching hardware was unsuccessful.

Well, I have sound now. I downloaded the drivers from the EES site, but now the sound is terrible! The bonus is, I have the speaker icon appearing on the toolbar, and I can hear stuff, but the quality is just awful. Sounds all tinny......
    Any new suggestions??
    Thanks all

    Hi

Never mind, I fixed it. After I downloaded the drivers from the ESS site, I reinstalled my drivers over top and it resolved the problem.
Thanks so much for all your help
