    Bios vs. Windows

    I have a pc that bios says has a PIII 1300. Windows says it has a Celeron 434mhz as does Belarc advisor.

    The program Bios Agent say this about the mobo;
    Bios ID:6A69MTRAC
    Bios Date:07/06/03
    Bios Signon:07/06/2003-i810(E)-W8362-6A69MTRAC-00
    Bios Type:Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
    Super I/O:Unknown
    Chipset:Intel Whitney 82810E rev 3
    OEM Signon13PRO) EVALUATION ROM - CH

    Cpu says PIII 1300 on it. I know CPU's can be mis-marked, deliberate or not, but why would the Bios report a PIII 1300 if it is only a Celeron 434mhz?

    Also can anyone tell me the mfg. of this board by the bios string and if there are any bios updates?

    Thanks in advance.

    Intel did not make a 1300 P3. There is a 1333. Bios and windows will report wrong if the fsb or multiplier are set wrong. Although intel processors are multiplier locked, I suspect this could happen if the bios does not support the cpu.

    BIOS may be misreporting the CPU... Celeron 433 has a thick (about 2mm) black colour base, while P3-1333 has a thin green colour base...
    Celeron 433 runs at 66Mhz FSB and P3-1333 - at 133Mhz... that may give you an idea...

    As far as I remember, the 810 chipset didn't support anything over PIII 1Ghz. IOW: it didn't support the Tualatin. So, it must be misreporting.
