Bios splash screen?
In an earlier post I asked about conflict of what splash screen said and what windows reported. Thanks to a link to Intel I found I did not have a PIII.
http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?t=64645
Question is, is there a way Bios Splash Screen can be manipulated or just plain wrong in reporting what CPU you have?

Yes, the POST report could mis-identify a CPU, if a BIOS update is available, an error such as this could be corrected. But it could also be caused by something like overclocking with an odd clock/multiplier combination, confusing the BIOS.
It's also possible it has been deliberately manipulated. A well known example of this was some years ago when fake 2nd level cache chips appeared on some motherboards, with the BIOS modified to report the cache OK, but no provision to disable/enable it & prove the falsification.
Do you have a suspicion the system might be deliberately faked to claim a PIII?

Yes, because I have reset the bios to all combinations and get the same results. And when I run Inel's cpu identifing program as well as Belarc and other benchmark programs my PIII 1300 always reads as a Celeron 434. I took the chip out and the markings on it are;
Intel
Pentium III
1300/128/133
Malay
52500637-2004
There are no markings on the back of the chip.

There's another clue right there. As I said in the other thread, there is no PIII 1300. On top of that, all the PIII's had 256 or 512KB cache, not 128. The Celeron 433 has 128KB cache, but is based on a 66MHz fsb, not 133. There are no Celeron's with 133MHz fsb.

The program Bios Agent say this about the mobo;
Bios ID:6A69MTRAC
Bios Date:07/06/03
Bios Signon:07/06/2003-i810(E)-W8362-6A69MTRAC-00
Bios Type:Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Super I/O:Unknown
Chipset:Intel Whitney 82810E rev 3
OEM Signon 13PRO) EVALUATION ROM - CH
bios agent , just misunderstood my bios string , and prosessor ,,
however , i keep looking at this "OEM Signon 13PRO) EVALUATION ROM - CH" , and wondering , if someone has been playing with the bios ??????
can you restart and check bios date , then check at mfg site , to see if the bios exists ,,(date the same) ,,,and if nessesarry reflash with correct one,

Run a comparative CPU-intensive test on another P3 machine ~1GHz, then see if the results are different (MPEG encoding for example). If you have a 433 Cel. you'll see the difference immediately. Or try a benchmark/test program and compare with reference data.
P3 was made up to 1400MHz. There is none at 1300, but there is one at 1333.

but YOU MUST be able to see the difference in performance between a celi 450 and a 1.summot p3 ,,,
i refer you back to the bios question i asked before,

It's like selling a VW as a Rolls Royce by just changing the name and no one will notice.

the thing is , this firm has borrowed/begged/stolen the drawings for all the intel boards ,,
now we all know that every tom dick and harry are mfg boards ,,,asus, giga etc ,,but they have support behind them , this firm has not.
so , i order 100 boards , knock them up , sell them on ebay ,,,
sorry mate , i did,nt know it was a celly ,,,,i bought the boards as p4s ,,
summot sticks with the bios code here "OEM Signon 13PRO) EVALUATION ROM - CH , is this the orig bios , or has sombody flashed it?
it would seem to me that they have had the bios re-written to hide the info , if this is the case , then that is fraud under uk and american law ,,,,
where did the board come from?

guy bought it on Ebay. At least he used Paypal which will get his money back. But the board itself supports up to a PIII 1500, if he can find a cheap legit one.
