Unable to Write to Disk in Drive 'C' Error
Hi Gang,
I’m downloading a demo of a game on the Internet. When I do I get a blue-screen error saying “Unable to Write to Disk in Drive C” When I press ESC it goes away and comes back after a few seconds.
JitBob suggested I turn off Norton AV. I did so and continued to get the same error. Then I removed it from my desktop (Win98SE) and still got the error message. Then I uninstalled NAV 2002 entirely and was able to download my file successfully.
Then I tried for another file from the same website and the same error message appeared. Note NAV 2002 was still uninstalled.
I tried an online scan with RAV AV and I still got the same error msg after a few minutes. So I have been unable to complete a thorough online virus scan.
I have scandisk-ed and corrected the errors when they found them, both in safe mode and in Dos . I also did a complete thorough scandisk two days ago.
Every time I go on the internet I seem to get this error after a few minutes. I am using a broadband connection.
BTW, I was unable to unpack the game I downloaded. I got the error message and it froze up.
What’s going on and how can I correct it?
PS> I have a 20G Seagate HD (72rpm) and a 40gb WD Hardrive (4800rpm)
Thanks,
Orangeman

I would suggest running a Diag utility from the HDD manufactures to make sure there is not an issue with your HDD. Sounds like one of them is flaking out on you.

Thanks Zonie for the help,
This started when I tried to download Tribes 2 Demo version. I may be trying to download a NTSC version which might also be the cause.
But first I'll try the diagnostic utilities,

Hi Zonie,
I ran diagnostics on my drive C with WD Diagnostic disk. Everything is fine. I ran both the quick and extended test.

Hi Orangeman:
At least this is good news for the drives. In regards to the NTSC standard, this will be a problem. I have included information Here for you to read. Check the download site again to be sure. Cheers.

Well I've scandisked both drives and defragged with Diskeeper Lite.
Everything is more stable. However the problem comes back if I try to extract an ISO file from one drive and copy to another, and when I try to copy a computer folder from a DVD that also has a Playstation, that's right Playstation folder on it.
That's where this problem originated I think.
By some some reckoning I don't fully understand I thought PS2 had to do with a technology they used in computer mouses (PS2).
PS2 Means Sony Playstation-2.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to get my hard drive back to nurmal....
PS> The playstation folder of now off my computer
