When I turn my computer on and before it goes to my desk top ,, this comes up (windows registry or system.ini file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exists,) (it also says turbovcd.vxd ??) Can any one help me?? I don't know much on this !!! My computer appears to be running fine BUT I've never had this before appear and would like to know what it means or what I can do.. Thank You So Much!!!!

What's going on here is one of two things.

1) you tried to install something and canceled it, the installer made the Regestry reference and did not copy the file.

2) The file got manualy removed.

there are 3 ways you can go about correcting this problem.
1. find the program/component that is associated to and reinstall it.
2. manualy extract the missing file from the cabs
3. dig through the registry and remove the reference.

The easiest way to get rid of that error is to click start- click run- type in regedit and hit enter- click edit, then find and type in turbovcd.vxd. Delete any refrences to that file. To continue searching after it finds an entry hit the F3 key until you get the message finished searching registry. Restart the computer and the message should not re-appear

Turbovcd.vxd is a driver file for a Rockwell chipset modem. It is normally loaded in the system.ini in the [386enh] section as device=turbovcd.vxd

It sounds like the file is no longer on the system. Edit the system.ini and delete that line. If your modem is no longer working properly, reinstall the drivers.

You said you didn't know that much about this so the best way you can get help is to give all the info you can Knowing what OS your running would be a good start. Then, how familiar are you with either regedit or sysedit? If this comes across as condenscendng I apologize. I work at a high school and have to walk students and teachers through stuff they 'don't know that much about' each day. Let us know what you need and I'm sure you'll get it here.
