Hi Gang,

I was having problems with my computer going into Thorough Scandisk automatically upon reboot. I used Western Digital’s diagnostic utility to see if anything was wrong with my disk. When I did this I accidentally deleted my boot sector and partitions and had to restore them with Norton’s Emergency Recovery Boot Disk.

Now everything is fine except for one thing. I installed a game yesterday before I did all this. Its called “Leisure Suit Larry” The game shows up on my computer but it doesn’t do anything. It also shows up in the wrong place.

The Larry folder shows its using 3.6GB of space (where did this come from?)

I cannot delete the folder but I can rename the main folder - but not the subfolders. Inside the Larry folder are subfolders, but each subfolder is named in computer lingo with computer symbols.

BTW, Leisure Suit Larry did reinstall properly.

How can I get rid of this 3.6GB monster? I also tried deleting it in Safe Mode but to no avail. I'm using Win98SE.

Use a Win 98 boot disk, and delete the whole folder in dos.

Or even try from a dos prompt within windows, I've had some luck doing that

The game had been installed after the last Recovery Disk was made, so the game folder now points to locations on the drive that have been "restored" to the state they were in before the installation. So nothing makes any sense any more to the OS, those locations that contained filenames now just contain random rubbish.

As has been suggested, you may be able to delete the folder from DOS. You will need to use the DELTREE command, as the DOS command for deleting folders, RD (Remove Directory), will only delete one empty folder at a time, and you would have to type all the weird sub-folder names.

DELTREE is dangerous if used wrongly, type DELTREE /? from a DOS prompt for instructions.

If the deletion is successful, run Scandisk, the file system may need some sorting out after.

I have found fdisk to be a great tool when dealing with situations like this.

I was able to correct the problem using a combination of Scandisk in DOS, Safemode and in Windows..
