Welcome to windrivers fnction22. More information is needed. If this is a branded computer, please provide the make and model. If the modem did not come with the computer, we need the make and model for that as well. In device manager, what does it show for your modem? Any yellow ! or ? (for the modem or any other devices). What do you mean by "doesn't connect"? If you open the modems module in control panel and go the the diagnostics panel, does the modem respond? Have you entered the appropriate phone number and password for your isp?

On a separate issue, windows xp cannot be activated on more than one computer. If it was installed on another computer and activated, you will need to remove it from that computer and call microsoft for a new activation code.
Probability factor of one to one...we have normality, I repeat we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem.

Can't help you without the info. What is the make and model of the computer?

Alternatively, $20 will buy you a new modem.

    Conexant drivers here: http://www.conexant.com/support/md_driverdownload.jsp
There are instructions for identifying your modem.

What you are experiencing does not sound like incompatibility, more that you are lacking the appropriate drivers. xp natively supports many devices, but by no means all - its primarily a function of what drivers the manufacturers supply to microsoft. If you are going to install a device that is not natively supported, you need to have the manufacturers driver available.

I have this problem all the time when upgrading a computer. I recommend that you download from the net a free product like AIDA run that to identify any equipments you are not sure of. Then you can go on the net either to the manufacturer r a site like that was provided above and download the appropriate driver for your operating system.
