Post STB 4mb AGP with DVD support (OEM in Gateway G6-300) XP Driver needed!

    Greetings Gurus,

I have performed a clean install of Windows XP on this Gateway G6-300. XP did not supply the driver for the "STB 4mb AGP with DVD support" card that came with this system. Gateway does not have a driver either. I believe this is a STB Nitro AGP with DVD.

This AGP card has the following markings; 1998 STB Systems. 1X0-0623-305. 210-0311-00X LU3-T3.

There is a paper label on one of the main chips with this; RTK Nitro DVD 1.5 240-0496-006 02\19\98.

Windrivers.com only had Nitro DVD drivers for 9x & a beta driver for NT. Nothing for even Windows 2000.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

So far I have turned up an NT driver <a href="http://support.tangent.com/drivers/ssvg2pnt.zip" target="_blank">Here</a>

Will keep looking but the Microsoft HCL only shows the card compatible with win98 and NT. STB are no longer in business. You might be looking at a new card I am afraid.

    NooNoo,

Cool! I downloaded that one & will try it. If you find an XP, or even 2000 driver that would be awesome!

The cool thing is that even though I have a yellow exclamation in Device Mangler for the video (says "Video Controller (VGA compatible)) & when you go to "display properties", "settings", "advanced", "adapters" there is no adapter name at all but I can still get 1024x768 16-bit color! I guess I can run like this indefinitely, but obviously, I would prefer to have the correct driver. This system will NOT be used for gaming. Business apps, internet & e-mail only. I don't think it's worth replacing the card. This system does not have a DVD drive, so I don't need the native DVD decoding capabilities of the card.

Well I think if that NT driver doesn't work you are gonna be stuck. It's a very old card.

looks like I'm stuck! The NT driver won't go. I can't even force it to take it.

At least I'm getting 1024x768 High Color (16-bit). These folks will not be able to tell the differnece. If they want a new AGP card, I can get them one. They need a bigger hard drive first anyway (4.0gb!)

I knew someone would ask that! :-)

I upgraded it to 256mb of PC100 SDRam. It runs great with XP! There is almost a gig of free hard drive real estate, even with the i386 folder copied to C:\. I have Office 2000, Norton AV, etc installed. All this will be used for is Office apps (Word mostly), Internet, e-mail & a small investment tracking program. This upgrade will give them another 2 years or so, and then they can buy another system.

By way of example, since my wife discovered "Pogo" Cribbage, etc. I have been relegated to the "File Server", which I'm on now. It's an old IBM GL300 desktop (Celeron 300a) with 512mb of PC100 RAM & 2 SCSI hard drives running Windows 2000 Server. It runs just fine for what I do. I'm no "Gamer", so I can do almost everything I need to right here. I even connect to work through a Nortel Extranet Access Client (IPSEC Tunnel) & launch a Citrix session to one of our servers to manage our Network, Users & applications, etc. I have cable at about 1.3mb. That is way more important to me than processor speed! I type slow anyway! :-)

STB went bust SEpt 1999 if i remember, I had trouble getting drivers for my irst TNT card I doubt very much that you will be able to get device drivers for this card, best off putting the machine back to 98 for the time being, no point forcing a user to upgrade if they don't really want / need to, If 98 and a 4gig drive is surfice for there needs, I would lewave it at that.. (possibly another upgrade down the line...)

    The upgrade is "Fait Accompli".....

They will manage just fine with things as they are. I will mention to them that a possible future upgrade would be a new larger hard drive & a new AGP card. The parts cost on the 2 would be under $100. I bet a new PC comes before this upgrade however.
