Question strange beep at windows startup

i was recently forced to format my harddrive and reinstall windows. I was forced to reset the bios defaults as my previous settings wouldnt startup from my windows 98 SE CD.

Anyway windows installed nicely (wow) however there is now 2 beeps during startup and not the normal 1.

The first beep occures where it should - at the display logo.
The second beep occures when win98 itself starts up. The beep is the same as the first one but i'd never heard it at that point in the startup routine until i reformatted and reset default bios settings.

what is this beep trying to tell me?

ill include as much infor about my machine as possible.
    thunderbird 800
    asus a7V motherboard, VIA chipset
default bios settings (updated around october 2000 but i dont know the bios number - sorry)
Geforce 2 vide, creative live sound,
windows 98 SE - standard installation.

forum posting or email is fine
(im really not sure if this is a windows question or a bios one - so i posted it on both

when the windows splash screen comes up, have to tried hitting the ESC key to get rid of the splash screen to see if there are any error messages when the beep occurs?

My guess would be a setting in BIOS, give it a check

I found the cause of that pesty beep. Im running PC cillin in my startup sequence. when it starts checking for virus's it gives a little beep - i dissabled it just to check and i was correct.

thankx for the suggestions - i feel like a bit of a fool - i shouldve been able to work that one out on my own
