Norton 2004/2005 Installation issues...
PC is a refurbished Dell Dimension
PIII -- 1GHZ
256 MB RAM
20 GB HDD
Win 98 SE
Tried installing NAV 2004. Install went fine except it never asked me for a product key. Tried to activate, but screen just goes away and back to desktop. Tried all of NAV's support options (rnav, remove reg entries, files, folders, etc., reinstall Windows scripting 5.6) with no help. I uninstalled 2004 & tried to install a brand new copy of NAV 2005. Same problem. Anyone have any suggestions.
PS -- PC has a fresh load of Win98 SE. Already tried install on a clean boot. Did trend online scan, symantec online scan, spybot, adaware, all windows updates, hijack this, cwshredder.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Maybe because Norton shouldnt be installed because it's loaded with bugs and flaws. Put ZoneAlarm for the firewall (free and much safer/reliable) and use another free AV program which will also be safer and more reliable than Norton anyway.

Well yeah that's one approach - I think though he wants his copies of Nav sorted out ..

ok - so this makes no sense to me whatsoever - why having done a 'fresh load' would you need to run all this anti-stuff - by starting 'clean' you'd have no need - maybe you don't mean what you are apparently saying ?
By 'clean install' here your average techie would mean fdisk, format, then reinstall o/s .. (& its one tough virus can stand up to that, & things such as malware have no chance at all)

It was a fresh load of Win 98 se. The reason I mentioned running all of the above is that our network is usually notorious for having viruses and such because other systems are online with other techs. regardless, I've done everything from symantec's web site just to cover my own a**. I am able to load and use NAV 2003, but still cannot activate 2004 or 2005. the strangest part is the fact that during installation of 2004 and 2005, at no point am I ever prompted to enter the product key. I was able to register 2004 through the help option, but now when I go to activate, the screen freezes on "gathering information". If it were my PC, I would have already put on Zone Alarm & AVG, but here in the shop we need to use a popular antivirus program to please our customers.
What I mean by "clean boot" is running msconfig and disabling win.ini, system.ini, and all startup items.
