xerox workcentre pro 745 and winxp

friend of mine wants to try and connect his workcentre pro 745 printer part to winxp. the xerox site says no xp drivers.
is it worth my time to see if the win2k drivers will work so the printer can be used with winxp. thanks

Bit of a crap shoot. Many w2k drivers will work with xp, but with a device like this they may not. This model is not listed in the xp hardware catalog as compatible either.

Yeah, what he said. Give it a shot.

If you should get it working in XP, please post it here so that we might all learn from it.

i will try to get to my friend's house in the next few days and play with it and report back. i installed it on my computer and had to make it compatible with win2k just to run the unzip file. interesting.

maybe xerox didn't develop an xp driver because they knew but wouldn't guarantee that the win2k driver would work.

i will check it out and let you know

the win2k driver worked fine under winxp. did have to set the compatibility of the download file to recognize win2k.

weird things with the printer though. won't print from the computer unless i hit the start button. also, when printing it disconnects the pass through on the phone line so can't print from the internet since it would disconnect the dialup connection. (need to get a splitter so the phone line line doesn't pass through the fax) and lastly the control centre needs a password to run. i am at a loss on that one but will probably try the uk version of the program and see what happens.

the online manual for the fax does not discuss any of these issues.
