    D-Link G604T updating firmware issues.

    Hi,

I just downloaded the most recent firmware for this modem/router, but it won't install it for some reason.

The 2 files you get when you download the firmware are...

    DLinkUK_DSL-G604T_fs_V1.00B02T02.UK.20040618
    and
    DLinkUK_DSL-G604T_kernel_V1.00B02T02.UK.20040618

According to the firmware guide, you update with the fs file first, then the kernel file. I've tried that several times, but it always seems to time out halfway through either file.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

    Cheers.

    Hi Loopa

    Welcome to Windrivers.

I have carried out the exact same exercise in the last few days.
It should be straightforward so I am not sure what you are doing that could be wrong. There is a set of instructions which are accurate.
Going thro what may be obvious -
    a) These are UK Drivers only.
    b) Redownload then from the D-Link UK ftp site.
    c) Check the ethernet cable, or try another.
    d) Try resetting the Router prior to starting, or reset it to factory settings.

If still no joy I would talk to DLink Technical. That piece of firmware is important to the router performance and must be installed.

Let me know how you get on.

I don't have an ethernet cable connected to the router. There are 5 pc's using this network, all using a wireless connection. Is this maybe the problem?

Will try the before resetting, after resetting, and after factory defaults if still no joy.

    Cheers.

    YES

You connect the router to the PC using a cable & access the setup that way

You never attempt to do it wirelessly you will shaft it - TOTALLY

I don't think it'll help, try with a cable, with all the wireless off while you do..

Btw this one sounds very much like its going to be related to the other one you've got open, if we get this one fixed I think you'll maybe find that resolves itself ..

    Confused

    Even with the updated firmware

It hopefully resolves the port issues and others

As far as I could tell from the log the modem constantly dropped the connection then picked it up again.
I think this is resolved also
Should resolve timeout issue, stiill sometimes fails to find DNS even when set in the DNS Settings. Doesnt seem to live on a BT Business connection very well but I wonder whether that is anything do do with the Router at all.

Have had a lot of problems with this router and BT.

The issue does not seem to be with the router settings but DNS.
Tried putting settings on the network card - no difference

Often gets as far as the Gateway IP then stalls?

Seems to be working but then you ping a IP and get no packet response.

I know ithe particular BT Line is ok.

    Any ideas?

    May also help Loopa

So constructor what you just said is seperate to loopa's issue & your own ? (I didn't pick this name for nothing you know ! if there's any ambiguity whatsoever its likely to cause much confus-ed-ness in me ! )

I think you are better for clarity to start your own seperate thread & link it to this one, if there is anything related he can then look ? Fair play ?

(It sounds to me like you have 'resolution point issues' which may or mayn't be tied to this & we might have to go through all sorts of things to 'nail' that)

Edit: .. In fact have a look at this one cannot see computer in workgroup where I got riddlecomp most confus-ed - I dunno if he's recovered yet - that goes through quite a lot of what I think may be amiss..

Ok, plugged the router into my pc via an ethernet cable, and managed to update the firmware straight away.

Had a few issues with getting the router back to how it should be, but i reckon it might be stable again now.

    Cheers for the responces.
