PnP and HW conflict in Windows

Hi, I've this big problem. I changed my old PII 266Mhz with a QDI LEGEND V MotherBoard pc for a new 1400 Mhz with an ASUS P4T Socket 423 INTEL 850 Chipset Motherboard PC and i've have big problem installing the hardware got from the old pc (SCSI adapter, PC SOUND card,...). It seems tha windows can not allocate resources for the new hardware ritrieved during its PnP but after POST the BIOS doesn't trace any hardware conflict error!!I've tried times and times reinstallig OS (Win98, WinME, and Win2K), changing PCI slot for each device but nothing.I've also tried to manually modify resource parameters via windows but when I start up the pc the OS always load its old resources parameters!!After many steps I was only able to make my SCSI work but not correctly.I mean whe the OS is loaded I must visualize its resources from the device manager clik OK and the Window update the configuration I made.But it doesn't work for other new hardware added.I thik there could be conflict between the 2 PnP (BIOS and OS)....
May hel me please? I, not able to use my pc and I have to work!
Any idea? I appreciate any suggestion.

I don't know if this will make the difference but since you have reinstalled windows many times. maybe you should do a clean install. fdisk/ mbr and then fdisk. this will clean the master boot record.

Agree with the above post, but maybe try deleting the enum key in the registry first. that way it will redetect all your hardware and re-assign the resources. Also, with many of the newer boards, I have noticed that the board likes to assign irq 10 or 11 to just about every darn piece of hardware. Most seem to work correctly like this...but.....

Damned Angel you're rigth!!! I noticed that every new hardware I install take IRQ 10 or 11 (sometimes 9) don't looking for example to IRQ 5 that should be the default for a sound card device!. How can do to make Win OS consider all enable IRQ? Must I have to set them statically in BIOS? Or is there something else in Windows configuration task I don't know? I'd like to try the step you suggest me about fdisk but I'd like to receive more info about how to do. THANK EVERYBODY for helping me.

Haven't used the Asus P4 board yet, but if ACPI is enabled within the Hardware (BIOS) disable it. This may solve your IRQ situation.

you COULD turn off PnP in the bios, get into win, set the irq's etc so it all works, then either leave it off or turn on PnP again. it SHOULD (in theory) keep the settings. Bit of problem, but could solve it.

Also, have you got the latest motherboard drivers?

Finally it may be worth upgrading some of the cards you have to keep in step with the mobo..

Thanks Damned Angel but even if i've deleted the enum key nothing changed. The only think i noticed is that initially my SCSI card had the IRQ !! (like the standard say) but when Windows found the AGP Video card it assigned that IRQ to it leaving alone my SCSI!! No IRQ was detected for my Sound Card to so i gad to configure manually all but only the SCSI works properly.
How can try to do what suggest by Danimal? Had I to delete de partition than re-format my HD and re-installing WINDOWS setting PnP OS to NO in my BIOS? I appreciate all the help you're giving me and I'm sure you can drive my on the rigth way! THANKS.
Rocco in my BIOS no option let me unset ACPI (I've the v 6.0), but I can only unset PnP OS.

why do we want to format for an IRQ problem?

Things to try. As stated turn off ACPI (should be in power management in bios), also try turning off all devices that you don't need in bios(like the second com port), if none of this helps, then start with just the vga card in, then add each card in turn, you will note that certain cards may change irq when they are in different slots. So all you can do is keep juggling each card about, if there are any ISA cards leave them until last and if you can disable the pnp feature on these.

You can allocate resources all you like in windows device manager but unless it is a standard configuration you are wasting your time, as the next time you rebooteverything will move about.
