Would appreciate laptop purchasing advice fast!

I have become able to arrange payroll deduction for a laptop (and a big screen TV ), but I NEED to be decided by 9:00 am tomorrow, earlier if at all possible.

I have the option of any current laptops available on www.toshiba.ca or www.fujitsu.ca. Trouble is, these websites are a pain in the a$$. I'm slogging through them right now but I can't find any useful charts that compare the various models to each other... :grrrrrrrr:

I'm mainly concerned with price and reliability. No matter what laptop I get it will be seriously overpowered for anything I ever want to do with it.

Any of you have any comments on these brand names or particular models you might have worked on or with?
    Flash! Don't heckle the supervillain!

yup i,m here , i will leave the thought of fujuitsu out of this ,,,,apart from , how confus-ed has said "warrenty" ,,

because fujitsi , jibbed on the warrenty ,of there last product bad product,

because of this , i will never buy a fujitu product again.

    now like confus-ed , i have a toshiba laptop ,,,mine is gettin on a bit now ,,tis a 1g , 30g pentium model ,,

even at its currant age , it is not showing signs of failure in any form ,,,so if i was buying a replacement ,,,it would be another toshiba ,,

,,,,there ,,,and i did,nt go into a "i hate fujitsu" mode.

    Canada and International Limited Warranty
System unit: Three year parts and labour
    Battery: One year
Pre-installed software is excluded from TCL standard limited warranty
I think the chat crew are steering you ok Mr Clam - any mention of 'extended warranty' kicking about ? - batteries here get 3 yrs too I think, but laptops aren't my speciality & terms & whatnot change all the time ..

We use Toshiba laptops exclusively here in all our canadian offices from Halifax to Vancouver.

    Very reliable.

This is the one I have: http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.gr...1&product=1451

Some executives and road warriors prefer this one, but the screen is smaller: http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.gr...1&product=2110

Toshiba any day of the week. Be on the lookout that if you buy from a store, there is a recall on a few models for bad RAM, but anything direct from them is a good buy. If you have your pick of the litter, try to get a Tecra. It's their business class line and they are great.

If its going to be for home use you may want to check this one out:
    http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.gr...1&product=3795

I second the longest possible warranty. I fix Toshibas in-shop, and the average non-warranty repair is about $200. I have had some that are over $1000 to fix, but those are few and far between.

Let me know what the main use is going to be and what features/specs you are looking for.

It's for simple, simple, light usage only. Office uses. Writing in MS Word. MP3 playing.

If it is too good at playing video games, that is a BAD thing, as it will destroy my productivity...

Nah. I wonder what the choices would have been if other makes had been "available". Based on some of the comments, it sounds as if Toshiba would come out very well in that as well. Good info to know.
