Explorer Memory Crash
I have a user here who is getting a Windows Explorer Error Message about memory read error and some weird error numbers that is not found on m$ site nor google.com. These numbers change each time to.
------------------------------------------------------------------
The instruction at "0x6361c7d9" referenced memory at "0x00000000".
The memory could not be "read"
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
------------------------------------------------------------------
What she does to get it to crash:
- Right Click a folder and or file
- Copies File or folder to a folder
- Copies file or folder to another folder then trys to rename it
- I have reinstalled sp4 (win2k pro) got all the updates
- I have moved her hard drive to another system just like hers (thinking it might be a bad mobo)
- Defragged system, scanned for spyware
She does have alot of development tools on her machine, like visual studio 6, and visual studio .net 2002, Im downloading sp6 for visual studio 6 since she doesnt have any patches on that. Her hdd died about feb of this year so its a new hdd. She also has mssql desktop edition installed.
Any Ideas?

What about chkdsk, run that yet? I always like to try sfc /scannow after a chkdsk, if it reports no problems.

Tech-To-Tech Mod
I'm seeing quite a bit of this too. my work pc and a couple of others are doing it here at work. mine also has vb 6 installed on it, but the other ones don't. I can't figure out what the hell the deal is. it's a minor irritant, but an irritant none the less.

wonder if it ws a windows update
we have a SUS server ehre and we configure all the SUS client in the "group policy manager" to point to our SUS server and not Microsofts, so I wonder if the user got a update and its doing this
well I did find this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262490/EN-US/
but tis no help, since I already reinstalled sp4

more things I have done that didnt help
- Upgrade bios
- Converted fat32 to ntfs
- Got Visual Studio 6 sp6 installed
- Got Patches for Visual Studio 2002 .net
- Updated Installshield
- Looked for the W32.HLLW.Cult@mm worm (found nothing)
- Updated Norton antivirus, though it managed by our central server but still did it manually
Nothing worked, now I am reinstalling windows 2000 pro to see if this does anything

rebuilt system on a new amchine and all from scratch now I installed all the applications the user needs and well today it starts again, Im thinking it might be a conflict with having visual studio .net 2002 and visual studio 6 w/sp6
