It's encoded into logo.sys in the root of your boot drive ie, C:\
If you're thinking of editing it, there's a great set of utilities called the XrX Animated Logo Tools that can take any image and turn it into a boot screen.
You can add animated bars (like the one at the bottom of the standard screen) or animated other colours for your own effects.
There's a whole load of sample screens, so check it out!
