DVD Writer recognition problem
Hi, I have windows 2000 with P3 733 Mhz with 128MB SD RAM. I have recently installed SONY DVD RW DRU-530A in my system. It was working fine for one month then I have to change my RAM and after that the drive is not getting recognised properly. It shows excalamation marks at the startup and same in the windows device manager. Also the drive name gets messed up like Sony EVD RW- 531A, the letters get misplaced. If i insert any media that is cd or dvd , it gives error as 'incorrect function'. I tried using the latest firmware for the drive but that too doesn't recognise the drive. Nero too doesn't recognise that there is any drive.
Kindly help.

Hi nikhil, welcome to Windrivers.
The first thing to check is that you haven't dislodged / loosened one end of the ide cable attached to the DVD rewriter. A poor connection here often shows up as either garbage or at least misspelling in the device description.
I can't see that changing or upgrading the system RAM would have any effect.....

Hi,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I have checked the connections, they are not loose. i have also tried changing the ide cable with the new one but still no help. It is still not getting recognised properly. Windows and Bios shows the drive is there but no media is recognised and nero as well as firmware for the drive refuses to recognise that there is any dvd writer.
Also when I try to do scan for harware changes from the device manager or use "Add/Remove Hardware wizard" the system gives two-three pop up windows of "Unsafe removal of Devices" for the same DVD RW drive.
