They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

    Hear hear.

We should never forget those that have given their lives for our freedom and way of life.

I've already had several quizzical glances about my poppy today (and it's not even 7AM). I've had the thing for 3 years - I donate to my British Legion Branch back home every year so I reckon it's ok to recycle the poppy

Their blood stains our soil, their blood stains our past and their blood stains our memories. Some stains, should never be removed. Thank you to every soldier living and dead for letting me be the man I am.

My local war memorial carries these words ..

"Salute the souls of the departed brave who paid with utimate sacrifice that you may persist, salute also those souls that endured, for all fought for that most precious thing Freedom .."

I get quite emotional about all of this as I have my own personal rememberances to do too, but I included the above quote to make it clear that on Remberance day (here is generally Remberance Sunday on the closest date to the 11th), we aren't just remembering those who died, but also those who fought & may still be suffering & many of them (& the widows & families of those who died) are dependent on help from associations like the British Legions Poppy appeal ..

Exactly ed. I like to think of Memorial day as a day to remember the dead, and Veteran's day to remember the living, which is the way I think it was designed. So to ed and all of the other posters who have servec, thank you. There's never enough ways to say thank you. You're all braver than I could ever hope to be.
