    New Presario with WinXP ??

I started using MS works word processor to send out memo's to my club members and several people so far have had a problem opening these memo's from the MS works word processor .. I'm pretty sure most of these people have newer computers and have recent OS's...Any ideas what may be the problem ??

If it is a newer version of works, it uses MS Word for the word processing program. Few questions for you:

What version of Works/Word are you using?
What file format are you saving as? (.doc, .rtf, .wps, .wpd, etc.)
What version of Works/Word are the recipients using?

You might be better off sending the file as rtf then at least they can open it in just about any word processing package whereas not everybody may have word or works installed.

i agree...save the files as RTF or plain text...not everyone has Works, it duznt come with Windows...and even MS Word won't open files created with some versions of Works.

If it is saving as WPS, you are using Works Word Processor, not Word. My guess is the other you are sending too, if they even have Works, have a newer version which actually uses Word for the word processor.

Like suggested above, save as RTF, then they can open it even if they are have nothing besides WordPard.

Ok, I have been using Win98SE for a couple of years and always used wordpad. I'm on the learning curve.

So there is a works word processor and a
    Word processor ??
Is one better the the other ???

I have only had the presario for a week now and strange things are starting to happen. Today when I turned the computer on all the icons on the desktop were huge. It seems that the resolution switched on it own to 800x600. I changed it back to the orginal resolution and in the afternoon when I turned the computer on again in was back in the 800x600 mode. Any ideas on why this is happening ??

I think your getting the wrong end of the stick....
There is a program made by Microsoft called Word which is a word processor, there is also a program made by the same company called Works which is also a word processor. There are third party programs which are not made by Microsoft which are also Word processors.

You need to send the file in a format that all recipients can read even those with Word or Works so save the file in RTF format and it will cover all bases as it will open in even a basic word processor like Wordpad. The other option is to send it as HTML as they will all have browsers which are cabable of reading this format.

As to the other resolution problem [shrug] theres so little to go on it could be anything from a power spike to a failing piece of hardware.
