Hi there, can someone confirm if Ultra 320 SCSI will work on a Ultra 3 Wide SCSI Controller?
Thanks

The reason I ask is that as long as the physically connect, is should be backwards compatible.

If the best the controller can offer is Ultra3, then it will work with Ultra320, but you will be sacrificing the speed that you paid dearly for in the Ultra320 drive. We have the same situation on a server I am working on right now. The server has ten Ultra320 drives connected to a SMART Array 3200 controller. It works, but only at the slower speed that the 3200 supports. We plan on replacing the 3200 with a controller yet to be determined that supports the speed of Ultra320.

Hi Chaps, thanks for your responses. I have no idea what the controller is, its a server with Netware 5.1 on that went down...
Have got it running with the Ultra 320 drive, as it was cheaper to buy than the Ultra 3!
Thanks again for your suggestions.

When you first start the server, while it is still going through POST, it will identify the controller on the screen. It could be a SMART-2DH, 3200, 4200, 5300, etc.
