    dead mainboard

Does anyone have any experience in testing mainboard faults on laptops at component level ? mine has liquid damage and doesn't do anything at all.

New board is too expensive, as is sending it somewhere to be fixed.

Yes, I will try ebay - but in the meantime ?

In the meantime you are SOL. Liquid damage is your worst enemy as it will cause more and more components to corrode over time, causing random and eratic behaviour/failures. This is why most notebook manufacturers will not even give you a repair rate on liquid damaged components, only sell you a new ones.

Not sure what SOL means, but I imagine it doesn't mean something positive.

I'm sure all that is true. But I did have my HP workstation completely immersed flat on the floor of a flooded site office for a couple of days. Luckily it wasn't on, and I dismantled, and dried everything and it worked fine for over a year. Until the next flood.

I read somewhere that mboards have an onboard fuse - do they ?
