We're still waitin' for that little Verison Wireless dude to show up here with his fancy cell phone saying "can you hear me now?" As a Polar Bear is closing in for his mid afternoon snack...

Have you checked in with Cingular/AT&T Wireless (say that 3 times fast!)? Based on what i remember, the map showed a pin-point dot of coverage over in the anchorage area. And with the Cinular merge, the coverage should've improved. I was always curious if they ever rolled out the 850MHz band out there to improve GSM service.
Here is a sample: (orange = good coverage)

Up at work there is nothing, but down in Anchorage we have full coverage through Cellular One (Cell 1) including metro Seattle as our home area. AT&T Wireless was up here but they sold out to Dobson Communications (Cell 1) about a year ago. We also have GCI and ACS. Actually ACS has some of the best packages up here now, but Cell 1 has suited our needs very well.

Ah yes,.. good ol reliable cellular one and their analog service. Can't get all the fancy shmancy digital internet services, but you can count on them to make a 911 call that's for sure. We had them in our Santa Cruz market up until about a year ago but AT&T Wireless managed to roll out the GSM service over there and bought out all the dobson towers. Not sure what GCI or ACS are. I'm assuming they are roaming partners for the analog service. It must be tough to maintain cell towers out there I guess because it doesn't seem like they are expanding much out there.
