    using netmeeting with a router

    okay, so here's the deal: I have a Linksys wireless G router, and it is connected to mine and 2 other computers in the house.
    I want to be able to use windows netmeeting, but unfortunately, can't figure out how to set it up so someone can dial my computer. I can dial out, unless the person on the other end is also behind a router, and i would like for people to be able to place calls to my computer.
    How can i set it up so this will work?

    I have cable internet and im running XP.

    Thanks

    Bit of Advice... Don't Do It!

    That may not be the answer you want, but to make it work you have to open alotta ports and that pretty much makes the firewall features of your router worthless.

    There are too many worms/viruses out there right now trying to get thru your firewall not to mention hackers and script kiddies, and to enable NetMeeting behind your firewall is too big a security risk.

    Check into something else like a IM program such as AOL IM, MSN IM, or Yahoo IM.

    from homenethelp.com...

    Unlike most TCP/IP applications, NetMeeting uses DYNAMIC PORTS instead of STATIC PORTS. That means that each NetMeeting connection is somewhat different than the last. For instance, the HTTP web site application uses port 80. NetMeeting can use any of over 60,000 different ports. Putting a web server behind a firewall means opening a single small hole. Putting a NetMeeting computer behind a firewall means opening over 60,000 ports - a security nightmare.
