Resolved [RESOLVED] No one knows this answer I bet!!

Windows98,Windows98SE ok here it goes I ask tons of people no help yet so I thought I would stum the smartest forum readers.

Sometimes I get 2 W's drivers in Windows 98,SE doesn't matter. I thought it had something to do with my HP 7200i 2x2x6 so I sort of ignore it.

I ask techs and they are like ASPI update yea yea yea. I still had the problem.

Now I have the TDK 161040 CDRW and have not see it until today 2 W's drives pop up. they always have txt icons and are not accessable.

    here my system:
    MSI 6167
    AMD AThlon classic 600
    pc-100 128mb
    20.4gig WD 7200
    10gig WD 5400
    Pioneer DVD 10/40 slotloader
    TDK 16x10x40
    Voodoo 3,3000 AGP 16mb
    AWE 64
    Realtek network card

note was doing this before the DVD drive also.

My tech has no idea and I can't make it happen to show him. It just does it when I close Windows Explorer and re open it is back to normal.

So what the hell is this?

I found the answer in a chatroom here the txt if someone like me is having the same problem. It a bug with Office2k

    http://support.microsoft.com/support.../Q269/1/82.ASP

What a company all problems and soulations are a result of Microsoft. I can only assume Outlook2000 is my problem.

At least I can stop going nuts over this.

Always wondered what those 2 drives were, thought I had been seeing things on my PC. Thanks for the tips....and again it lands with Microsoft - what a surprise.

I hate to burst anyones bubble, but it happens to others that don't have Office anything installed. Go figure.
I have my system set up with CD-ROM as drive "R" for Read, and drive "W" for Writer, guess what happens when I get the two extra "W" drives?

I also have this problem on my NT4 SP6a workstation at work and my Abit Kt7 Win98SE machines at home.

Hitting F5 for refresh gets rid of them, i suspect it is IE 5x, but it does happen on NT not just 9x as told by MS.

There is no fix that i am aware of, even if you install IE 5.5 SP1 (latest)
