win98se hangs
I just reformatted my comp, and everything is fine, but the system hangs on certain things it didnt do before at all. Mostly when installing programs or accessing large programs and things of that sort. I have a 1.2 ghz and 256MB so its not the sys, cuz it never did this before anyways. Any ideas?

Have you checked the CPU temperature and the cooling kit? If both seem to be running properly, the next thing you need to check is the memory modules.

Do what Aliendyne said , I t has to be hardware considering the fresh install, and things are happening during installation, if programs are already in stalled and had no probs with installation i would tell you to reinstall the prog but you can't even get that far so hardware has to be at fault. definatly sounds like CPU temp to me .

I have this same issue when the die was physically chipped............even a tiny amount.
Drove me crazy for a couple of days. Looked at the die with a magnifying glass, it was slightly chipped.
Could be.

Have to go with Aliendyne too but would like to add What version VIA chipset drivers are you running, I am assuming you are running a thunderbird?
