Okay I think I know what your problem is, the people that manufacture the disc's for movies and music,bloat the file's when their being burned at the factory, say your tring to copy a Shrek dvd,(which would typically be bloated to 7.5 gig's or more),to a dvdr (which can only hold 4.7 gig's) it would be too large for Nero to copy.And the erorr message you got was the one Nero give's if the original is too large or if the blank already has information on it(the same goes for cd's),as well as the disc's you are trying to copy most likely have copy guard, which make's the disc come out funky,but dont despair just yet,there are a number of free program's out there to decrypt and shrink dvd's or cd's.
Here are couple that I recommend for Dvd's
To Decrypt:

Look under Descrambling/Ripping Tool's you will find
"DvD Decrypter 3.5.1.0" that's the one you want.
To Shrink:
http://www.doom9.org/
Look under Vob tool's and click on DVD Shrink3.2 and there you go

These are just a few that I found out of many good free program's to choose from,depending on how involved you want to get.
