    I've crossed to the darkside......

And bought an AMD64 machine. I've been die hard intel for a long time now but decided to give the "other side" a go (last time is was a 1.1 althon)

I must say it plays games better, but windows seems to run better on intel.

BTW, its a 3500+ with an ASUS A8VDeluxe Board

So is 64 bit Windows available to the general public yet? That's what it'll take to get me there. I can't really go Linux untill I have the resources to have two machines side by side to get adjusted, and no way can I afford that....at least not two machines I'd be satisfied with

I downloaded the 64 bit Windows Beta release a couple of weeks ago and was going to load it up on my gnu Athlon64 3200+/MSI rig, but the it didn't like my SATA drives, so I said the frell with it. It do run mighty sweet though.

I've been running 64bit Windows on a dual AMD machine for a few months. It's pretty slick. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to really put it through a rigorous test yet, but will soon.

but you got be beat radical Dreamer, i've got a 3200+ and the a8v in transit to me as we speak, i couldn't justify another $100 CAD to go to the 3500+, but anything with the socket 939 is lightning quick.

Been using an ABS AMD 64 machine for almost a year now. I absolutely love this thing...really...I've named her Wanda. [basic specs., 2 gig RAM, twin 200 Gig HD's RAID, dual monitors, and your basic peripherals.

Seriously, though, I run a ton of major sized spreadsheets/graphics apps through it, and it rips. It is totally trouble-free when running combined process involving data, graphics, sound, images...

Games are incredible, including Tribes Vengeance, Doom 3 and some others. Only thing needed to get some Doom graphics glitches fixed was the latest ATI Catalyst d/l. Interesting thing...when I'm playing Tribes online...I'm always the first person in to the level...allowing me to check for my buddies while they're waiting to load the level, and make the switch.

Along with Major Kong, I tried the Win64 beta...but it was such a hassle [especially since I didn't d/l it correctly the first time] that I gave up on it.

Can't really say I've found a downside yet, and I'd used nothing but Intell for years!

    Have fun!

I've not given up my love for the reliability of Intel by a longshot, still have 7 intel machines at my house with the slowest being my 2.0ghz lappie, I use my intel for everything except playing games. So that goes to show you that the AMD's are toys

I wouldnt go that far, but its been an OK cpu so far. Although I prefer Intel, I've been known to give AMD a chance here and there. Last time was a 1.1ghz thunderbird
