[RESOLVED] Reversion to Generic default icons?
With exception of the basic Desktop Icons...all icons, both desktop & start menu have reverted to generic(window flag) icons. Tried deletion of shelliconcache. even checked registry for correct keys in the root. As new programs are installed, even their icons are NOT used but rather the generic ones. Help. Have substituted other icons but would like the original ones back. control panel icons did NOT change.

Go to Download.com and get tweak ui. there is an option on the repair tab, "repair Icons", that should fix your problem.

..They still work. After reviewing the KB on microsoft, I ascertained that the link associations had been lost. I found a pgm on zdnet called "iconexplore", used that to extract the original icons from their pgms, saved them to a file, then did a re-association using 'change icons' in 'properties' on each. Now My computer loads faster (no shelliconcache) and 3% more resources have been freed up..
