processor upgrade
I have a 450mh motherboard model i440bx-w977tf
how fast of a processor can I use and will my bios work?

Looks to be a P2 processor board with 100 Mhz FSB if that is correct its not going to be up to much with a newer OS installed.
Run Everest system tool and post the relavent information on the installed processor and board.
EDIT..............
Available in speeds from 233 MHz up to 450 MHz.

All depends on MB manufacturer (depends on CPU voltage regulator used in MB)... BX chipset supports 100 Mhz CPUs (officially, unofficially can go bit higher)... For example,I had had MSI MS-6163Pro motherboard running well with Celeron 1GHz (100x10) after some BIOS editing... Many of ASUS-made motherboards can run with similar CPUs...
We need more information regarding MB model and PCB revision...
